Noise control starts with listening. Microphones on the outside of each earcup hear the room, and the headphones play the opposite of what they hear, so the two cancel out before the sound reaches you.
Adaptive means it keeps listening. As you move from a train carriage to a quiet office, the cancellation follows the room instead of staying fixed — and a tap on the earcup switches to transparency mode when you need to hear the world again.
